La Provence Verte: the unspoiled beauty of true Provence. Tucked away from the summer crowd between the Verdon (France's Grand Canyon), La Sainte-Baume (Marie-Magdalena's Grotto) and La Sainte-Victoire (famously painted by Cézanne), lies a region that has truly been blessed: La Provence Verte. This "Green" Provence consists of 37 "communes" (towns/villages) which have come together, combining their identities and values, in order to share with you their particular way of life and the pleasure found in a rest away from the crowd, and to help you explore and appreciate one of the most beautiful regions of France.
La Provence Verte enjoys a rich and varied heritage, bearing witness to its past, its history – the history of the men and women of Provence who, for centuries, have been dedicated to the cultivation of vineyards and olive groves, for which they had to adapt the land. Those visitors who are fond of history will visit La Provence Verte’s numerous museums: le Musée du Pays Brignolais, le Musée d’Art, Histoire et Société du Pays Sainte-Baume, le Musée du Santon (symbolic clay figurines representing saints and local personalities and the evolution of the Provencal costume), le Musée d’Art Sacré (the Museum of religious Art), le Musée des Miniatures, la Maison de l’Olivier (the Olive Tree Museum), le Musée de la Faïence (earthenware)... and why not discover the beauty of the nature with the splendid natural landscapes of the Forest, on the track of the cork oaks, botanical footpaths, archeological outings overlooking valleys full of lavender and olive trees scattered on hills that greet the visitor. http://www.la-provence-verte.net/us/accueil/accueil.htm
