Flying to Madrid must reads

Why Madrid?

The Spanish capital is a year-round destination offering incredible food, plenty of sunshine and world class museums and attractions. Book cheap flights to Madrid, Spain with Ryanair and experience the city’s fascinating museums, wonderful restaurants and non-stop nightlife. Madrid’s streets have a buzzing atmosphere with something of interest on nearly every corner of the city. Madrid’s “Art Triangle”, or Triángulo del Arte, is a cultural haven. There are free museums and galleries everywhere as well as impromptu exhibitions from local artists that you won’t find in any other city. Fly to Madrid and discover the home of one Europe’s most successful football clubs, Real Madrid. They play in the Santiago Bernabéu – a stadium with a capacity of more than 80,000 and a museum with more European Cup trophies than any other club.

When to book cheap flights to Madrid

There is no bad time of year to book cheap Madrid flights as the Spanish capital enjoys mild weather year-round with very little rainfall. July and August are the warmest months with temperatures reaching 32°C during the day. Not a fan of the heat? Consider booking Madrid cheap flights between May and June or September and October when temperatures are a little cooler. During the winter months accommodation is often cheaper – search for great hotel deals on Ryanair Rooms.

What to see in Madrid

The Spanish capital is home to some of the best museums in Europe including the Museo del Prado, the Reina Sofia and the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum. These three museums are the focal points of Madrid’s Art Triangle – well worth a visit.

With the savings you’ve made on your cheap Madrid flights you can afford to treat yourself in the shops and restaurants of Madrid’s Gran Vía. This street runs from the Metrópolis all the way to Plaza de España and is flanked by numerous shops, cafés and bars for more than a kilometre.

For a breath of fresh air, take a stroll through the green heart of Madrid, Retiro Park. Football fans should visit the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. If you’re lucky enough to be in Madrid on a Sunday, don’t miss out on El Rastro. Locals descend on Ribera de Coritodores and Plaza de Cascorro for a flea market which sells pretty much everything you can imagine. Discover more things to see in Madrid on Try Somewhere New.

Getting around

Madrid has an excellent public transport system with efficient and frequent metros and buses in operation. Make sure to pick up a Tarjeta Multi – a rechargeable card you can use to pay to access public transport around the city.  You can purchase these at machines in any metro station, from tobacconists called “estancos” or from other authorised sales points. The metro is the most convenient way around the city with 11 lines serving the entire city. Planning to see more than just the city centre? Book a rental car via Ryanair Car Hire and your car will be ready and waiting for you when you land in Madrid.

What to eat in Madrid

Madrid is paradise for foodies. When you book cheap flights to Madrid you can look forward to sweet treats for breakfast such as chocolate con churros. Churros are deep-fried sticks of dough served with a cup of warm chocolate for dipping. It’s not the healthiest of breakfasts, but it sure is delicious. Bocadillo de calamares, or fried squid sandwich, is a traditional lunch-time favourite. Head to Plaza Meyor during your trip to try one. Cocido is another traditional dish worth sampling in Madrid. This hearty, thick stew can be found in traditional Spanish restaurants around the city. And of course, no trip to Madrid should be considered complete without sampling tapas – Madrid restaurants serve some of the best tapas in Spain.
