Alpe d'Huez is one of Europe's largest, highest and best ski resorts in the Alps. It is also one of only 20 resorts in the world - all in Europe - with a lift-served vertical of over 2000 metres (6560 feet)!!!
Built above the original village of Huez, the resort has expanded in all directions over the past 20 years. Today it is big and vibrant, with far more shopping and 'things to do' off the slopes than in most other ski centres. The vast array of off-slope facilities includes aerobics, rifle shooting, archery, body building, classical music concerts, curling, golf, ice driving, jazz dance, martial arts, squash, sumo wrestling and tennis...
The resort has a reputation for both good snow falls and good sunshine with south facing slopes - the lower areas are protected by more than 400 snow cannons. Therefore you will always find snow in this resort. No bad surprise ! There is a huge beginners area directly above the resort. Those who go to the top of the lifts will be able to see a fifth of France on a clear day! Summer skiing on the Sarenne glacier is a great attraction in July and August.
