Throughout the winter season, the town positively buzzes with excitement. The town centre is traffic-free and a bus service ferries skiers to and from the Hahnenkamm and the Kitzbühler Horn mountains. Kitzbühel's world renown as a ski centre is based largely around the annual Hahnenkamm downhill race. Despite this, Kitzbühel's skiing is largely intermediate, with a few pisted challenges for the experts.
