Perugia Food & Drink

Umbria is a region of excellent grapevines. Its extended hills are rich with water, and its soils are calcareous clay. The various ecological situations and the diverse climatic conditions give range products of many flavours and textures. For millennia, the silver of the olive trees cover the hills of Umbria. The vine as well as the olive trees brought wealth to the Etruscans and the Romans. They have been amongst the most important agricultural products of the region. The wealth of the earth and the ancient culinary traditions are the common denominator of Umbrian cuisine.

Il Falchetto

Il Falchetto is one of Perugia's best and most popular dining spots.

Osteria del Gambero (Ubu Re)

Ubu Re feels a bit like a private club, with modern art prints, soft jazz, and soft sconce lighting.

La Lanterna

A series of brick-vaulted rooms descends under a medieval palazzo past an open kitchen from which emerge billows of steam and the slightly adventurous creations of the cooking staff: The capriolo frutti di bosco (goat served with wild berries) is just one example.

La Taverna

One of the more refined restaurants in town, candlelit La Taverna is removed from the hubbub (but still central; just follow the signs).

Il Cantinone

On a side street just a few yards off Piazza IV Novembre, this low-key restaurant is set in a medieval mélange of vaulted ceilings and stone walls.
