The Avenue

The main boulevard Kungsportsavenyn is not only a centre for entertainment, the neighbour-hood also offers exclusive boutiques and fashion. Kungsportsavenyn, or simply Avenyn, stretches from the bridge Kungsportsbron by the Moat to Götaplatsen and the Museum of Art, the City Theatre, The Concert Hall and the Poseidon statue. Avenyn is lined with shops, cosy cafés, renowned restaurants and popular bars. It gets extra lively here in the summer when holidaymakers gather at the outdoor serving areas.

Röda Sten Art Centre

Röda Sten Art Centre is a non-profit association which uses the old boiler house in the harbour entrance between the Älvsborg Bridge and the area of Nya Varvet – with a view of the island Vinga and the horizon. It's a different arena for contemporary art, theatre, music and dance. There's also a workshop with creative activities for children and young people. You also find a café, music clubs and a restaurant in the building.

The Unique Archipelago

Masthugget Church

This 1914 church is a well-known sea navigation landmark in Gothenburg and a great example of the National Romantic style. Splendid viewpoint. The Architect is Sigfrid Ericsson. Around 90,000 tourists visit the church every year, correspondingly affecting the church and the parish itself.

The area has a long history of shipbuilding, and as late as the 70s it was home to some of the world's largest shipyards. Today the old shipyard areas along the quays Eriksberg and Lindholmen is new residential areas with restaurants, theatres and cafes, well worth a stop for a coffee or ice cream on the piers by the river.

Skansen Kronan

In the neighbourhood of Haga you find one of two still remaining redoubts. It was built in 1698 to protect Gothenburg from possible Danish attacks. Fortunately it never happened and the cannons you can see on the inside have never been used. Today the fortress is mostly used for private parties and on Sundays you can enjoy a grand brunch inside the 4 metres thick walls.

Göteborg Natural History Museum

At the museum you find a fantastic collection of animals from all over the world. You will meet the world’s only mounted blue whale and a huge African elephant. There are also birds and fish from the entire planet. You can get really close to the animals, because they stand completely still. Alfie Atkins' Cultural Centre

Alfie Atkins’ Cultural Centre is a creative cultural centre for children and their adults. Curious children can play, get up to mischief, climb and discover a building full of fascinating things. The panoramic lookout point at the top of the Utkiken skyscraper, 86 metres above the sea, provides a tremendous view of Gothenburg, the harbour and the archipelago. The building is known locally as “the lipstick” and is a familiar landmark right next to the opera house.

Stinsen Sightseeing

Boat trip to Vinga

Step on board M/S Walona for a trip to Gothenburg’s most westerly outpost. The beautiful island Vinga is offering unique nature and has fantastic waters for swimming. The Röhsska Museum

Just off the Avenue in central Gothenburg you find Sweden’s only museum of fashion, design and decorative arts. Haga, the city’s oldest "suburb," is a small town in its own right.
