Rijeka’s carnival – the biggest in Croatia and one of the top European carnivals. There’s a spectacular parade which usually starts on the last Sunday before Shrove Tuesday, this is a huge event with floats and carnival costumes. Small and large festivals in the area always include music, dance and local delicacies. During one of the most famous events in Croatia, the Rabska Fjera summer festival, the entire town of Rab turns into a giant medieval stage with more than 600 of its inhabitants putting on medieval costumes, playing the roles of medieval artisans in anticipation of the magnificent Rab Crossbowmen tournament.

There are many festivals in the Kvarner region. Some of these are: Festival Kvarner which brings international performers of classical music and opera to the glittering Crystal Hall in Opatija in September, the Marunada Chestnut Festival which brings delicious treats and celebrations to Lovran and surrounding villages in October.
