When to book cheap flights to Cardiff

The city of Cardiff is an attractive city break destination all year round, not just  because of its pleasant climate but also because of its action-packed events calendar. Visit in spring for the RHS Flower Show and the Six Nations rugby action in the Millennium Stadium.

With the best of the weather coming during the summer, the Cardiff International Food and Drink Festival is heaven for foodies, taking place in Cardiff Bay with a glorious spread of farmhouse cheese, handmade chocolates and specialist liqueurs. Be sure you have your cheap Cardiff flights booked in time for the annual FIM Speedway Grand Prix in August, the biggest motorsport event of the year.

What to see in Cardiff?

From the massive redevelopment in Cardiff Bay with Techniquest  science museum, to the Doctor Who Experience which showcases costumes and aliens from the series and the bars and restaurants of Mermaid Quay, there’s a little something for everyone in Cardiff.

In terms of historic sights, Cardiff Castle is an absolute must see. Built on top of an ancient Roman Fort, the medieval castle is definitely one for Instagram!

Getting around

Cardiff has a compact city centre with large parts of the city centre pedestrianised, so getting around by foot is easy. This is also true for the waterfront area of Cardiff Bay - you can easily walk around in 15 minutes. Being a relatively flat city, Cardiff is great for cycling and has many bike racks dotted around the city centre. Cardiff also has an extensive bus network with most buses going through the city centre and express buses connecting to the airport. If you’d prefer to drive check out Ryanair Car Hire for great offers.

What to eat in Cardiff?

Wales boasts a wealth of organic farmers’ markets, artisan producers, food festivals, and award-winning restaurants and Cardiff is no exception. Consider packing some loose clothing when you fly to Cardiff – especially if you want to try local specialities such as cawl, Welsh rarebit, laverbread, Welsh cakes and Glamorgan sausage.
