Ryanair Cuts All Rhodes & Kos Flights From October 2012 As Ministry Of Tourism Reneges On Promotion Agreement

Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (17 May) confirmed the early cancelation of 82 weekly flights to Rhodes and Kos, after DETAP and the Mayor of Kos failed to honour an agreed joint marketing campaign with Ryanair to promote Ryanair’s Rhodes and Kos routes this summer.

Ryanair will now close 11 routes to Kos and 13 routes to Rhodes, one month before the end of the summer season, resulting in the loss of over 23,000 high spending tourists and over €18m in tourism revenues to the local economy, after DETAP and the Mayor of Kos reneged on an agreement with Ryanair to promote these flights internationally. This promotion together with Ryanair’s low fares, would have guaranteed passenger growth and high spending tourists.

Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said,

“Ryanair originally intended to operate 11 Kos routes and 13 Rhodes routes to the end of the summer and these would have delivered over 23,000 passengers during October, providing increased tourism spending and sustaining local jobs.

However, DETAP and the Mayor of Kos have reneged on an agreement with Ryanair to jointly promote our flights and we have now been forced to cancel flights from 2 October

DETAP and the Mayor of Kos should now explain to Rhodes and Kos residents, why they have now refused to partner with the only airline interested in bringing new passengers, new jobs and millions in tourism revenues to the region.”

Ryanair Celebrates Start Of New Edinburgh To Szczecin Route

Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (12 May) celebrated the start of its new twice-weekly route from Edinburgh to Szczecin in Poland.

Ryanair celebrated its new route at Edinburgh by releasing 1 million £10.99 seats for travel on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays on over 1,000 routes across its European network in June. These £10.99 seats are available for booking on www.ryanair.com until midnight on Monday (14 May).

Ryanair Celebrates Start Of Its New London Stansted To Paphos Route

Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (3 May) celebrated the start of its new route from London Stansted to Paphos in Cyprus.

To celebrate, the Cyprus Tourist Office treated passengers to renowned Cypriot wine giving them a taste of the beautiful coastal city in the south-west of Cyprus.

The first passengers to check-in for the Paphos flight were Mitchell Sladden and Rebecca Crafter from Toot Hill, near Ongar, Essex. They received two return flights to explore another one of Ryanair’s exciting destinations from London Stansted plus airport shopping vouchers.

RYANAIR ANNOUNCES FURTHER CUTS AT EDINBURGH

AS BAA FAILS TO OFFER COMPETITIVE COSTS

8 ROUTES, 500,000 PASSENGERS & 500 JOBS LOST AT EDINBURGH

RYANAIR, the world’s favourite airline, today (12 April) announced further cuts at its Edinburgh base with the closure of 8 routes and 60 weekly flights from October 2012 as BAA Edinburgh refuses to offer a competitive cost base for more Ryanair growth.

Ryanair’s Edinburgh traffic will now fall by 500,000 pax per annum (from 1.8m to 1.3m) passengers), leading to the loss of up to 500 “on-site” jobs according to ACI figures.

Today’s route cuts (to Bratislava, Bremen, Frankfurt, Fuerteventura, Gothenburg, Kaunas, Lodz and Poznan) follow the closure of 5 routes from Ryanair’s Edinburgh summer schedule and Ryanair warned that deeper cuts to its winter schedule may be inevitable if BAA Edinburgh fails to agree an extension to its 5 year base agreement (which expires in Oct 2012) on more competitive terms. The BAA’s failure to secure a long-term growth deal, with Europe’s largest airline, is further proof that the BAA has no interest in securing the future of Scottish tourism, traffic and jobs as it artificially increases charges in the hope of making a killing on the sale of the airport for its Spanish shareholders.

These latest Edinburgh cuts become effective in October 2012 for the Ryanair winter schedule, and include:

From 25 to 17 winter routes (down 32%).
From 168 to 108 weekly flights (down 36%).
From 1.8M to under 1.3M pax p.a (down 28%).
Cuts on 10 other routes
The loss of 500,000 pax p.a. and 500 “on-site” jobs at Edinburgh Airport.

Ryanair regrets these cuts and confirms that they can be reversed if a competitive and realistic cost offer becomes available from BAA Edinburgh.

In Edinburgh today, Michael Cawley said:

“Ryanair regrets BAA Edinburgh Airport’s rejection of our proposals for a competitive cost base which would allow Ryanair to further grow our traffic and routes for winter 2012 and beyond. Sadly, BAA Edinburgh seems to prefer higher costs, even if it means fewer passengers and jobs at Edinburgh.

“While Ryanair remains committed to Edinburgh Airport (with 1.3m passengers and 17 routes this winter, we remain one of the largest airlines operating to/from Edinburgh), the BAA Edinburgh monopoly cannot continue to ignore the competitive marketplace, where airports all over the UK and Europe have been reducing costs and lowering charges in return for traffic growth. We hope there is a way to reverse these cuts to ensure further Ryanair growth at Edinburgh.”

Ryanair Delivers 26 New Summer Routes From London

LONDONERS ESCAPE THE OLYMPICS WITH RYANAIR’S LOW FARES

Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (28^th Feb) announced that its 26 new summer 2012 London routes will deliver over 1.5m additional passengers p.a. at Luton and Stansted, with over 260 additional weekly flights (to Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Spain), helping besieged Londoners to escape the July/August Olympics on Ryanair’s low fares to the sun.

Londoners are not allowing the Olympic Games to disrupt their summer holidays with Ryanair’s advance bookings for the Olympic fortnight (27^th July – 12^th Aug) up 28% on 2011. Bookings on Ryanair’s 26 new routes to/from London are already well ahead of expectations.

Ryanair Cuts Edinburgh Traffic by 15% From Summer 2012

5 ROUTES, 300,000 PASSENGERS & 300 JOBS LOST BY BAA’S HIGH CHARGES

Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (21^st Feb) announced that it would cut its base at Edinburgh from 7 to 6 aircraft, with the loss of 5 routes, 300,000 pax p.a., leading to the loss of up to 300 jobs, following the breakdown of negotiations with the high cost BAA Edinburgh about a competitive cost base for further Ryanair growth at Edinburgh. Ryanair also warned that BAA Edinburgh’s high cost base will lead to significant further cuts in Ryanair’s operation, if its 5 year agreement (which expires in Oct 2012) is not extended on more competitive terms.

These cuts at Edinburgh Airport (including the closure of Berlin, Malmo, Murcia, Ibiza and Tallinn routes) become effective for the summer 2012 schedule (starting April) and will include:

· From 7 to 6 base aircraft (down 15%).

· From 40 to 35 routes (down 13%).

· From 140 to 110 weekly flights (down 21%).

· From 1.8M to under 1.5M pax p.a (down 16%).

· This loss of 300,000 pax p.a. will sustain 300 fewer jobs at Edinburgh Airport.

Ryanair will continue its negotiations with BAA Edinburgh to try to extend its five year agreement on a competitive basis from October 2012, but warned that if these negotiations are unsuccessful, then there will be further significant aircraft, route, traffic and jobs cuts announced at Edinburgh from winter 2012 onwards.

Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline today (3^rd Feb) at a press conference in Budapest announced its intention to launch a rescue plan for Budapest and Hungarian tourism following the grounding of Malev airline last evening. Ryanair confirmed that it will base 4 brand new Boeing 737-800 series aircraft at Budapest Airport commencing in just two weeks time on Friday 17^th February where it will open 31 new routes, offering lower fares (€9.99/HUF2,999) than any other airline, and delivering up to 2m passengers p.a., replacing most of the traffic and routes lost by Budapest following last night’s grounding of Malev.

Ryanair, which currently employs over 700 Hungarian pilots and cabin crew, will be holding an open recruitment day in Budapest on Tuesday next (7^th Feb), inviting job applications from Malev pilots, cabin crew and engineers to help Ryanair gear up for this 4 aircraft, 2m passenger p.a. base at Budapest Airport. The International Airport Council figures confirm that this 2m pax p.a. will support 2,000 jobs at Budapest Airport.

This largest ever investment in Hungarian aviation and tourism is subject to reaching final agreement with Budapest Airport today on costs, facilities and handling, and Ryanair’s Deputy CEO Michael Cawley has travelled to Budapest to finalise these negotiations with Budapest Airport and the Hungarian Government. Because Ryanair has grounded up to 80 aircraft this winter, it has the capacity to respond immediately to the Malev grounding by moving aircraft, pilots and crews to Budapest within two weeks, in order to minimise the disruption to Hungarian consumers/visitors and tourism as a result of the Malev closure.
