Sita Stats Confirm Ryanair Is No 1 With Fewest Mishandled Bags

PASSENGERS 18 TIMES MORE LIKELY TO HAVE BAGGAGE MISHANDLED WITH OTHER AIRLINES

BA MISHANDLES UP TO 16 BAGS PER 1,000 PAX WHILE AER LINGUS REFUSES TO PUBLISH ABYSMAL BAG STATS

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra low cost airline, today (29 May) welcomed independent statistics which again prove it mishandles far fewer bags than any other airline. The SITA World Tracer Statistics for 2011 showed a worldwide average of 9 mishandled bags per 1,000 passengers. However, Ryanair mishandles less than 0.5 bags per 1,000 passengers, compared to high cost flag carriers BA, which mishandles over 16 bags per 1,000 passengers, while Aer Lingus mishandles so many bags it refuses to publish its stats.

SITA World Tracer, which is used by 450 airlines worldwide, found that many European airlines are very careless with passenger bags. 53% of all mishandles baggage was a result of mishandled transfers by high cost flag carrying airlines – a statistic which is continuing to grow rapidly – providing yet another reason for passengers to choose one of Ryanair’s 1,500 low cost point-to-point routes.

That’s compared to an industry average of 9 bags per 1,000 passengers and over 16 bags per 1,000 passengers at careless BA, while Aer Lingus’ baggage stats are so bad they won’t publish them. When it comes to being No1 for customer service, Ryanair has it in the bag.”
