Robin Kiely Promoted To Ryanair Head Of Communications

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost carrier (ULCC), today (23^rd January) announced that after considering over 75 applicants, it has appointed Robin Kiely as its new Head of Communications (from 1^st February) following an extensive recruitment process.

A former journalist, Robin (31 - but looks 15) joined Ryanair in April 2012 as Communications Manager and succeeds Stephen McNamara (35 - but looks 45 thanks to Europe’s media!), who joins the Irish Rugby Football Union after over four years at Ryanair. As part of its new communications platform, Ryanair is to launch a series of media relations initiatives over the coming months, including a dedicated media website.

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost airline, today (17 Dec) announced its Malta summer 2013, schedule with 30 routes, including 3 new routes to Gothenburg, Liverpool and Milan, from April 2013.

Ryanair will grow at Malta as follows:

30 routes
3 new routes to/from Gothenburg, Liverpool and Milan
170 weekly flights
1m pax p.a
1,000* jobs at Malta Airport

Ryanair celebrated its Malta summer 2013 schedule by launching a 100,000 seat sale with fares starting from €8 for travel across its European network in January which are available for booking until midnight (24:00hrs) Thur (20 Dec). Ryanair’s new Malta routes will begin in April and will go on sale on www.ryanair.com tomorrow.

In Malta today, Ryanair’s Michael Cawley said:

Ryanair Carries 27% Of Malta Airport’s Record 2.6m Pax During Summer Schedule

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost airline, today (12 Nov) welcomed Malta Airport’s record 2.6m summer passenger figures, with 27% carried by Ryanair. Ryanair continues to invest in Malta and recently celebrated carrying its 3mth passenger since it began its Maltese operations in October 2006. During 2012’s summer schedule, Ryanair carried over 710,000 passengers, 27% of the traffic at Malta Airport.

Since Ryanair first arrived in Malta in October 2006, it has grown to operate 27 routes, opening a base in May 2010 and carrying almost 900,000 passengers and high-spending vistors to/from Malta, sustaining almost 900* “on-site” jobs at Malta Airport.

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost airline, today (9 Oct) welcomed its 3mth passenger to/from Malta and presented passengers, Arthur Penhaligon and Andrea Erasmus, from South Africa, with a family travel voucher (for two adults and two children) to fly on Ryanair’s popular Malta route to London Stansted.

Since Ryanair first arrived in Malta in October 2006, it has grown to operate 27 routes, opening a base in May 2010 and carrying 3m passengers and high-spending visitors to/from Malta. Ryanair will carry 870.000 passengers to/from Malta in 2012, sustaining over 870* “on-site” jobs at Malta Airport.

Madrid Diversions To Valencia 26 July

Due to severe thunderstorms over Madrid on Thursday (26 July) Spanish air traffic control instructed a number of inbound aircraft (including 3 Ryanair aircraft) to divert to and hold over Valencia Airport. Having held over Valencia for 50 mins, 68 mins and 69 mins after their scheduled landing time in Madrid, Ryanair’s 3 aircraft (following standard industry safety procedures) requested air traffic control permission to land immediately as they reached their reserve fuel minimums, which allow each aircraft to operate for an additional 30 minutes (approx 300 miles) of flying.

All 3 aircraft landed normally with reserve fuel levels (of approx 30 mins or 300 miles of flying) remaining.

Malta Court Rules In Favour Of Ryanair Bag Regulations

GASAN MAMO’S DAMAGE CLAIMS DISMISSED

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost airline, today (13 June) welcomed a Maltese High Court ruling which confirmed that Ryanair’s terms and conditions in relation to damaged bag claims comply with the Montreal Convention and again dismissed bag damage claims made by the Gasan Mamo insurance company.

Gasan Mamo had made claims against Ryanair for damaged bags, which did not meet the criteria set out in Ryanair’s terms and conditions, which included the time limits specified under the Montreal Convention. These are agreed to by all Ryanair passengers at the time of booking.

The insurance company claimed that Ryanair’s terms and conditions were more onerous than the Montreal Convention and that the Convention limits should prevail. The Maltese High Court rejected this appeal and confirmed that Ryanair complied with the Montreal Convention and dismissed Gasan Mamo’s claims.

Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:

“We welcome the ruling by the Maltese Courts which confirms that Ryanair’s terms and conditions comply with the Montreal Convention and means that we will no longer suffer baseless bag damage claims from Gasan Mamo.”

Ryanair Growth Delivers Record Malta Traffic In May

MALTA APT GROWS BY 19,000 PAX AS RYANAIR GROWS BY 20,000 PAX

Ryanair, Europe’s only ultra-low cost airline, today (11 June) confirmed that Malta’s record 6% May traffic growth of over 19,000 passengers (which grew total May traffic to a record 344,000 passengers) was thanks to Ryanair’s 28% growth as over 20,000 additional Ryanair passengers grew its May traffic at Malta Airport to over 94,000.

Underling Ryanair’s importance to Maltese tourism, Ryanair now accounts for 27% of all passengers to/from Malta and while Ryanair continues to grow passenger and tourist numbers other airlines keep reducing their traffic.

Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara, said:

“Ryanair’s growth in Malta is due to our commitment to low fares, no fuel surcharges and our determination to grow tourism and jobs.

Ryanair’s importance to Malta is underlined by the fact that while Ryanair delivered over 20,000 additional passengers in May, total traffic at Malta Airport grew by 19,000 passengers. While Ryanair continues to grow, other airlines continue to cut passenger, visitor and job numbers.”

Ryanair Offers To Rescue Maltese Tourism

Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (23^rd Mar) revealed details of its offer to rescue Maltese tourism from the uncertainties surrounding Air Malta. At a meeting with the Maltese Tourism Authority this morning, Ryanair’s Deputy CEO, Michael Cawley, outlined detailed Ryanair plans to launch up to 17 new routes to destinations not previously served by other airlines from Malta, giving rise to over 50 new weekly frequencies and up to 500,000 extra passengers through the airport. This will require Ryanair to double its based aircraft bringing 150,000 extra tourists into the country, creating 450 new jobs and resulting in €60m extra tourism spend.

Announcing the details in Malta today, Michael Cawley commented;

“Ryanair’s track record in Malta has already been established. Tourism has enjoyed spectacular growth since Ryanair’s entry into the market and the establishment of our base in 2009 was a massive vote of confidence in the island’s tourism industry.

Now, given the uncertainty surrounding Air Malta, we are happy to provide the government with an option that is guaranteed to succeed with Ryanair’s lowest fares. This offer of 150,000 extra tourists, 450 jobs and €60m extra tourism spend from an airline that has delivered successfully to Malta before is a huge boost to the government at this uncertain time and we earnestly hope they will take advantage of our offer. Nothing succeeds like Ryanair’s guaranteed lowest fares.”

Ryanair, the World’s favourite airline, today (18^th May) opened its 42^nd base at Malta with one based aircraft and 19 routes which will increase Ryanair’s traffic at Malta to 800,000 passengers p.a. and sustain 800 jobs at Malta Airport.

Ryanair celebrated this new base and 19 routes by releasing 1m €10 seats for travel across its European network in June which are available for booking on www.ryanair.com until Thursday midnight (20^th May).
