RYANAIR CALLS FOR EU ACTION AS ITALIAN UNIONS STRIKE
RYANAIR CANCELS 200 FLIGHTS AFFECTING 35,000 PASSENGERS
Ryanair, the world’s favourite airline, today (5th Sept) called on the EU Commission and the Italian Govt to take urgent action to prevent strikes from continuing to disrupt European air travel after it was forced to cancel over 200 flights to/from Italy tomorrow (6th Sept), disrupting over 35,000passengers.
Ryanair believes Europe’s air services are essential services and protected public sector workers should not be allowed to strike and hold passengers to ransom by shutting down Italian airports.
Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said:
“Europe’s airlines and passengers suffered repeated disruptions last year and now as Italian unions inflict yet more misery on passengers Ryanair is again calling on the EU and the Italian Government to take action to prevent strikes from disrupting air travel.
Action must be taken at EU level to ensure that the ‘right to strike’ is removed from essential airport services so that the selfish acts of these unions are no longer allowed to disrupt the travel plans of EU passengers.”
