Tenerife Sur airport lies in the south of the island in the heart of the tourist area, about 60 kilometres from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Getting there:

By car: direct access to Tenerife Sur Airport from the TF-1 motorway, which links Santa Cruz de Tenerife with the south of the island.

By bus: Line 111: Santa Cruz – Tenerife Sur Airport (Reina Sofía) - Playa de Las Américas (Costa Adeje) station. Line 343: Puerto de la Cruz – Tenerife Sur Airport - Playa de Las Américas (Costa Adeje) Station. Line 450: Playa de Las Américas (Costa Adeje) Station – Tenerife Sur Airport - San Isidro. Bus stop: opposite the arrivals gate of departure terminal

By taxi: there is a taxis rank just at east side of arrivals terminal. Average fares: Playa de Las Américas (€24), Los Cristianos (€22), Santa Cruz (€75), Puerto de la Cruz (€100).

Mount Teide

At 3,718 metres above sea level, volcanic Mount Teide is Spain’s highest mountain, the highest peak in the islands of the Atlantic, and the world’s third largest volcano measured from the base. Teide is a major tourist attraction visited by millions of people from around the world every year. Of all the national parks in Spain, Mount Teide National Park receives the highest number of visitors. Guided visits can be organised by booking at the park office. Loro Parque

This natural paradise continually provides unforgettable holiday memories. Discover Antarctica at Planet Penguin, where you’ll find an iceberg that’s home to more than 200 penguins. Be thrilled by the Orca Ocean show as you see how strong and agile the orcas are. Or be amazed by the dolphins as they perform their gravity-defying acrobatics. You’ll also be delighted by the sea lions and the brilliantly coloured parrots. The park is set amid luxurious vegetation, with birds and animals from all corners of the world.

Playa de Los Cristianos

The sea lapping the shores of the beach in Los Cristianos is very gentle and in most places the water is shallow, making it an ideal place to enjoy a sunny day and a tranquil swim. This 400 metre stretch of golden sand has everything you’d expect from a major tourism spot, including showers, toilets, and sunbed and beach umbrella hire. Along the seaside walkway you’ll find a wide range of shops, cafés and restaurants. Los Cristianos also has a port, from where several sea excursions depart.

Old Towns

San Cristóbal de la Laguna, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is also an important commercial area with a lively atmosphere around its countless bars. Other places of interest on the island are the town of La Orotava, with its monuments, large stately homes, stunning scenery and local festivities; the municipality of Icod de los Vinos, with its beautiful natural locations stretching right from Mount Teide down to the beach in San Marcos; and the town of Candelaria, famous for the statue of Our Lady of Candelaria kept in the basilica.

Güímar Pyramids

The Güímar Pyramids are five pyramid-shaped terraced structures astronomically aligned with the summer and winter solstices. Various theories have been put forward about their origins and age. Norwegian anthropologist Thor Heyerdahl hypothesised that they were built according to the architectural principles used in the Old and the New World. The ethnographic park is approximately 26 kilometres from the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
