Astrid Lindgren's World

Welcome to Astrid Lindgrens Värld, a world full of fairytale characters created by author Astrid Lindgren. In this theatre- and theme park you will meet all the characters from Astrid Lindgren's books in their true settings. Everyone can meet the characters, they perform scenes from the books and improvise situations involving the children in the park. The amusement park is located in the small city in Småland, Vimmerby, where Astrid Lindgren where born. Astrid Lindgren’s World is open from 12 May to 29 August and on weekends in September, as well as certain weeks in October (week 422) and November (weeks 43 and 44).

Gunillaberg, Bottnaryd

You find this mansion in the beautiful forest in Bottnaryd on the highlands of Småland, surrounded by a beautiful atmosphere, ponds and streams. Gunillabergs mansion outside of Bottnaryd, Jonkoping, had its heyday during the 1600s. Queen Kristina used it as a hunting lodge, but honored it in 1642 for military Johan Printz. Johan Printz was governor of the Swedish colony New Sweden, near Delaware. When he got home, he was, among other things, the county chief in Jönköping County and then made Gunillaberg to his residence. The farm is named after John Printzs mother Gunilla. The Danish artist Tage Andersen took over the mansion in 2008 and has his studio, gallery and boutique. A Beautiful and interesting literatures is also placed there.

The City Park - Stadsparken

One of our finest assets, the over 100 year old city park located on the hills with panoramic views over Vättern and the city. It's an oasis within wlaking distance from the city centre. This park is surrounded by a beautiful nature for both adult and children – there is something for the whole family. Stroll around and visit the bird museum, arboretum, animals, kiosks & restaurants, mini golf, dance hall and the municipality's largest playground. The beach - Vätterstranden

Enjoy Jönköping’s two kilometer long beach in the middle of the city. You can take a walk on the beach and there are beautiful places around Vättern where it's nice to enjoy a picnic. In the summer the beach is full of people taking a swim and enjoying the sun and a nice day with friends. At the beach you can also play beach volleyball and basketball, and there are large lawns with room for outdoor games.

Rosenlunds Rosarium

Rosenlunds Rosarium, one of Sweden´s most beautiful parks, is just a few minutes walk from Lake Vättern. The park is surrounded by nature and old cultural environment, and in the rose garden you can find around 500 different roses.

If you want to enjoy a musical, concert, theatre or any performing art, Spira is the place to visit. It is located by the lake Munksjön. Every year over 800 concerts and performances are given. Gränna & Visingsö

Gränna and Visingsö are unmissable destinations offering enchanting views, manor houses, cobbled roads, bicycle rides, idyllic wooden cabins, castle ruins, paths and oak forests. Gränna was founded by Count Per Brahe the Younger in 1652. At Grenna museum, you can learn about S.A. Andrée’s adventurous balloon voyage over the North Pole. The three-man expedition party departed from Svalbard on 11 July 1897. The sweetest thing in Gränna is definitely its mint rock. The authentic mint rock is red and white but today it comes in infinite flavours. The island of Visingsö is just a 30-minute boat ride away. Ideal for a daytrip. It includers attraqctions like the ruined Näs Castle, Sweden’s first royal residence. You can also hike or take a special horse-drawn carriage (known as a remmalag) and enjoy a bicycle ride around the island.

Rosetten is a popular pastry shop in the Kålgården area in Jönköping. Try their unique butter-rolled Danish pastries, some of them with delicious chevré cheese, and tasty coffee bread. You will find Kaffebönan, or the Coffee Bean, in a charming old wooden house from the 18th century, located in the very heart of the Östra Centrum area. The atmosphere here is very homely and cozy, and the staff have great knowledge about their trade. If the weather allows, you are welcome to enjoy your coffee or food outside in the small courtyard, paved with cobblestone. Röttle Café

Röttle village is located about 4 km south of Gränna. You will find the café in the “Krogen” house by the waterfall, approximately 150 meters from Röttle harbor. The feeling here is very pleasant and old-fashioned, just as its historical environment. Everything served here is homemade and simple, such as cookies, cakes, rhubarb pies, apple pies and cheese sandwiches. Here you can also buy jam from Röttle, and sometimes locally produced vegetables. The café opens in May and closes on the last Sunday in August.

This café is well-known and frequently visited for its famous shrimp sandwiches and waffles. But here you will also find freshly baked bread, cakes and traditional pastry. Brunstorps Gårds Trädgårdscafé

The Brunstorp café is located on the Brunstorp Gård, which is part of a natural reservation area. The building itself is originally from the 14th century, and you can choose to drink your coffee inside the house, or outside in the gardens. You can also buy a picnic basket and sit under the tree of your choice. Why not take a stroll around the premises and look at the many different fruit trees in the orchard. The café is open daily during May through to September. Brunstorp also celebrate the annual Day of the Fruits during the first Saturday in October.

Jönköping comes alive when darkness falls. When you visit Jönköping there are many different bars and clubs to visit. If you are in the mood for party and dancing you should visit Karlssons Salonger, Harrys/Sliver or any of the other nightclubs. A6 is Jönköping’s old military regement, which has been transformed into a grand shopping centre. Here you can browse through 80 stores and restaurants of various kinds. Small shops and large department stores under the same roof create an exciting, yet cozy atmosphere. Busses go to the A6 area frequently, and the opening hours are very generous. Solåsen, just south of Jönköping's city center, is a commercial area with everything from furniture and clothes to hardware stores, automotive and consumer electronics. Opening hours differ from one store to another, but general opening hours are 10 am to 18 pm during weekdays, 10 am to 4 pm during Saturdays and 11 am to 4 pm on Sundays.

Market at Västra Torget square

The Saturday market at Västra Torget square in Jönköping is one of Sweden’s largest. Most of the groceries for sale here are locally produced, such as fruit and vegetables, fresh fish, meat, cheese and sweets. The vendors also offer items such as clothes, books and decoration items for your home. The market opens every Saturday at 7.30 am and closes at 1 pm.
