The Avenue

The main boulevard Kungsportsavenyn is not only a center for entertainment, but this upscale neighborhood also offers exclusive boutiques and clothing stores. Kungsportsavenyn, or simply Avenyn, stretches from the Kungsportsbron bridge by the Moat to Götaplatsen situated near the Museum of Art, the City Theatre, the Concert Hall and the Poseidon statue. Röda Sten Art Centre

Röda Sten Art Centre is a non-profit association which uses the old boiler house in the harbour entrance between the Älvsborg Bridge and the area of Nya Varvet – with a view of the island Vinga and the picturesque horizon. It is a different arena for a contemporary art center offering theatre, music and dance. There are also workshops with creative activities for children and young people. The Art Center also boasts a café, music clubs and a restaurant in the building.

The Unique Archipelago

Enjoy the unique archipelago of Gothenburg, with its' salty granite cliffs and beaches framing a deep, blue body of water filled with fresh fish and shellfish. Masthugget Church

This 1914 church is a well-known sea navigation landmark in Gothenburg and a great example of the National Romantic style as designed by the famous architect, Sigfrid Ericsson. This area has a long history of shipbuilding, and as late as the 1970's it was home to some of the world's largest shipyards. Today, the old shipyard located by the Eriksberg and Lindholmen quays is a new residential area with restaurants, theaters and cafes, and it is well worth the stop for a coffee or an ice cream with a river view.

Skansen Kronan

In the neighbourhood of Haga you find one of two remaining forts. It was built in 1698 to protect Gothenburg from possible Danish attacks, which fortunately never happened. The cannons you can see on the inside of the fort have never been used. Today the fortress is mostly used for private parties, and on Sundays, you can enjoy a grand brunch inside the 4 meter thick walls.

Göteborg Natural History Museum

At this museum you find a fantastic collection of animals from all over the world, meeting the world’s only mounted blue whale and the African elephant. Gothenburg Museum of Art

The art collection housed in the Gothenburg Museum of Art is one of the finest in Northern Europe and stretches from the 15th century until today, with a significant Nordic and international artwork collection. Götheborgs Utkiken

The panoramic lookout point at the top of the Utkiken skyscraper, 86 metres above the sea, provides a tremendous view of Gothenburg, the harbour and the archipelago. The building is known locally as “the lipstick” and is a familiar landmark right next to the opera house.

Stinsen Sightseeing

Boat Trip to Vinga

Step on board M/S Walona for a trip to Gothenburg’s most westerly outpost. The beautiful island of Vinga offers a unique natural setting with fantastic waters for swimming. The Swedish singer and composer Evert Taube grew up in Vinga and his father was the lighthouse-keeper from 1890 onward. Ringlinien Vintage Tram

Try something different during your visit to Gothenburg. The Röhsska Museum

Just off the Avenue in central Gothenburg you find Sweden’s only museum of fashion, design and decorative arts showcasing everything from contemporary design to several thousand years old Chinese ceramics. The Gothenburg Opera

The Gothenburg Opera was inaugurated in 1994 and is located next to Lilla Bommen (also known as 'The Lipstick', the modern skyscraper). Haga, the city’s oldest "suburb," is a small town in its own right. Gothenburg has fantastic parks, and Slottsskogen is a prime example of a park with so much more to offer than being manicured grass and trees, In Slottsskogen, visitors can have a picnic or visit the children’s zoo. Gothenburg City Airport is located about 15 kilometres from the centre and is mainly served by low-cost airlines. Buses depart from the Nils Ericson terminal every two hours and 20 minutes before every departure. The bus trip takes 30 minutes and costs 70 kronor.
