Frankfurt-Hahn is located approximately 124 km from the city of Frankfurt in the low mountain range area Hunsrück and the federal state Rheinland-Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate). There is no rail service to the airport. There is a coach service connecting Hahn Airport to Neu-Isenburg, Offenbach and Hanau for €8. Other shuttle bus services connect the airport with Frankfurt-city centre, Trier, Koblenz, Mainz, Worms and other towns. There are connections the gemstone-city Idar-Oberstein and the health resort Bad Kreuznach in the Nahe Valley. Bingen and Koblenz in the Middle Rhine Valley have shuttle bus connections as well as Bullay and Zell in the Moselle valley. Cars can be hired in the terminal building and taxis are available outside. The airport is reachable by car over the highway A 61, exit Rheinböllen, from where you take the trunk road B 50 to Hahn airport.

Frankfurt - city of many facets

The city skyline, the modern landmark of this business and finance metropolis, stands at the ready to welcome visitors from afar. Rieslings and more in Germany's number one wine region

More than 70 per cent of German wine and sekt is produced in the six wine regions Moselle, Middle Rhine, Ahr, Nahe, Pfalz and Rheinhessen. Sales are on the increase both in Germany and abroad. The choice ranges from sparkling rieslings that thrive on the steep slate slopes of the Moselle to pinot noirs from the Ahr region, whose red wine vineyards are the most northerly in Germany, but also the most highly regarded. Many wineries sell their wine directly, hold tastings on the premises and run guided tours of their cellars and vineyards. Some even have fully-furnished holiday homes and rooms, so guests can see all the hard work that goes into the wines. These can be enjoyed along with delicious regional fare at the numerous wine festivals, where locals and visitors celebrate as one.

Go nature: Best places to go hiking and cycling

Rheinland-Pfalz, the federal state around Hahn airport, has emerged as one of the finest walking destinations in Germany. With stunning views, a careful signposting and a minimum of asphalt, the network of premium hiking routes meets the highest quality requirements. The Rheinsteig for example, winding its way along the Rhine for 320 km, has hikers clambering uphill to castles, downhill into valleys, venturing through vineyards and discovering spectacular views.

Where Romans and gallant knights once trod

The countryside that falls within the borders of Rheinland-Pfalz can look back on more than 2,000 years of history. Merely strolling through Trier (direct shuttle bus connection from the airport), the oldest town in Germany, brings Roman history to life with the Porta Nigra gate, the imperial thermal baths and the ancient amphitheatre. It was the Romans who first brought winegrowing to the region. Every year, there are demonstrations showing how they crushed the grapes with their feet at the Roman Wine Press Festival in Piesport, a small town on the Moselle river. Historic castles and landscapes

Castle Eltz near Muenstermaifeld close to the picturesque Moselle - Valley is one of the most beautiful and best preserved castles in Germany. Lying in a romantic setting surrounded by an unspoilt landscape, inviting and majestic at the same time, it is like a fairytale castle come to life. The Hambacher Schloß is a monument of german democracy: Special attention should be given to this castle, the "cradle of German democracy". It was there that in 1832, a fearless citizenry demonstrated for the right of free speech, hoisting the black, red and gold flag for the first time. The former "Kästenburg" is called the balcony of the German wine route (Deutsche Weinstraße).

The Loreley - Poetry, truth or legend?

Loreley Cliffs - Steeped in legend, the slate cliffs near St. Goarshausen rise 132 m into the air. It is the narrowest part of the Rhine. On the top there is an open-air stage for rock concerts and classical music events. The "Loreley Visitor's Centre" offers a multimedia exhibition on the myth of the Loreley and the surrounding region's history, culture, flora and fauna.

Trier - the metropolis at the Moselle

The oldest city in Germany was once the seat of powerful emperors, influential bishops and electors, all of whom left behind major art treasures. The imposing Roman monuments, the Cathedral and the "Liebfrauenkirche" have been declared a UNESCO world cultural heritage site.
