Coal Mine Museum

A trip in the heart of the mine on the site of one of the biggest extraction site from the XXth century. From the miners cloakroom ("hanged" room) till pit-head frame cages and lampstore, a course which follows in miners footsteps. In the subterranean gallery, a discovery of the deep sites, the technics, the know-how.

LE CORBUSIER HERITAGE - FIRMINY (NEAR ST ETIENNE)

Human adventure, urban adventure
Firminy Vert was entirely realised in the 50’s according to the theories of the worldly famous architect « Le Corbusier ». The place today houses his biggest European urban site. You will discover the last of his fifth famous “housing units”, and the civic centre made of four buildings, some of them where designed or realised by his collaborators after his death. On a sunny morning, you will be charmed by the wonderful lighting effects in St Pierre church!

The Cité du design, an exceptional tool

The Cité du design, public establishment set up in 2005, aims to develop the uses and the benefits of design by increasing the meeting opportunities between professionals of the area, companies and private individuals. The Cité leans on a network of founding partners and benefits from a strong support from local, regional and national institutions. The School of Art and Design is now on the same site and represents the heart of the Cité‘s creative activities.

The Cité structures its activities around strong and transversal sets of themes which each serve a democratization of design: Saint Étienne International Design Biennial, exhibitions, conferences, research programs, publishing… It has many missions:
