The attractions of Marrakech

Most of the city’s ‘’unmissable’’ sights are to be found within the old city walls: the Koutoubia, the great square of Jamaa elFna and the Menara are all symbolic of Marrakech. All in a highly sophisticated decoration and perfectly balanced proportion, it is regarded as one of the Maghreb’s most beautiful monuments. The Menara is a sanctuary of tranquility. The legendary Jemaa Elfna is the nerve center of the city. During the day performers show case their talents including musicians, storytellers, snake charmers... which capture the imagination. At night, the place becomes a magical open air theater.

First rides into town

Marrakech is really two cities standing side by side – the old town within its historic walls and the new town with its districts of Gueliz, Hivernage and intersected by avenue Mohammed VI. The city covers a good deal of ground, and is ideal for exploring on foot, by bicycle or by barouche in the new town as well as within the old walled medina. The Majorelle Gardens, Arsat Moulay Abdessalam Park, the gardens of the bahia Palace, and the Menara and Agdal orchards are - each in its own unique way - a haven of peace, relaxation, and pure delight!

The night life and gastronomy in Marrakech

When night falls in Marrakech, a new life begins. Would you prefer an elegant evening at the casino? Or a Cabaret show? A pub? A night club ? A restaurant? Whatever you decide to do, you’ll be spoiled for choice! Marrakech restaurants offer you the choice of sampling Moroccan dishes or the finest international cuisine. However, don’t leave Marrakech without trying the great local specialty, Tangia Marrakchia, a real institution whose flavor is not just a matter of its ingredients, but also of how they are cooked.

The Hinterland

For adventure enthusiasts, the foothills of the Atlas are ideal for hiking such as the Ourika valley, as well as the collar of Tizi-n-Test and Tizi-n-Tichka and the Toubkal National Park for the more adventurous. Hiking trails are divers and numerous. Walkers may prefer desert trekking. However water sports enthusiasts can try the descent of rivers in a canoe up to Ouzoud.

Festivals in Marrakech

Between the prestigious Film Festival of Marrakech, the authentic folk arts festival and the breathtaking Caftan festival, a feast for your senses is guaranteed. The first has the merit of gathering films of various nationalities, languages and cultures in one place. The second is a contribution to the preservation of the Moroccan oral heritage. Folk groups from all over Morocco take part of special moments of celebration and sharing. Caftan is a yearly opportunity to present the finest creations of Moroccan haute couture.
