Abruzzo International Airport is located just 5 Km from Pescara. Buses to Pescara, operated by "GTM" leave from outside the terminal. From Medieval Art to the archaeology and local buildings which recall the lives of the local Abruzzo people, there is a vast array of museums to choose from in the region.

art and architecture

Churches, castles and medieval fortresses are features of the Abruzzo landscape. Famous monuments such as S.Maria di Collemaggio, the ancient Scanno roads and the National Archaelogical museum are also a must see.

caves

You should also fit in a visit of the famous "grotte" (caves) in Abruzzo which are particularly popular with naturists. They are easily accessible and do not require special equipment. The caves in the Velino and Sirente areas are particularly popular with visitors.

nature

The landscapes of Abruzzo are dotted with contrasts between rocks and forests, valleys and beautiful sandy beaches. Combined with the national parks and natural reserves Abruzzo is paradise on earth for travellers who love the outdoors.

pottery

Castellan pottery originated in Abruzzo. It is likely that the Benedictine monks introduced it to the region in the XIIth century. It wasn't however until the XVth century that the technique was perfected. The Castelli centre for ceramics was to become one of the most respected artistic centres of the Renaissance.
