Weather forecast

In all, the young and trendy surf set mingle with second home-owners from the less balmy regions of Europe. The latter happy for blue skies and high temperatures, and the former also seeking rolling waves and a rocking nightlife. However, away from these visitor hubs the tranquillity of old is easy to find, even on the beaches - with such a profusion of broad sandy strips, towel space is never going to be a problem. Away from the shoreline, desolate roads lined with squat, round windmills link tiny villages of sugar cube cottages. Here, the population ekes out an existence producing world renowned cheese and ruby red tomatoes.

The beach island Fuerteventura is a beach-island with more than 150 kilometers of virgin and remote beaches with all facilities and services perfect for families, beaches in charming fishing villages, beaches to practice your favourite water sports and with golden sand and turquoise waters. In the south, the endless beaches of the coasts of Barlovento and Sotavento and, in the north, the large beaches of Corralejo, among others, make up this never-ending paradise. Weather and Water sports You can breathe in health, adventure and fun in each corner of Fuerteventura. Endowed with some of the most unique natural and meteorological conditions in the world, Fuerteventura is an authentic paradise for lovers of water sports and open air activities that you can practice throughout the year thanks to its generous eternal spring climate, the summer trade winds, its warm waters and more than 3,000 hours of sunshine a year.

A World Biosphere Reserve Island with Volcanic Heritage Fuerteventura was declared by Unesco as a World Biosphere Reserve for all the territory and its surrounding waters. Natural monuments and parks, rural areas and landscapes, living witnesses of its volcanic origin such as the badlands, where there are a variety of plants and indigenous fauna of immeasurable value.

Discover a destination that is as rich in nature as in history, culture and tradition. Let yourself be infused by its picturesque rural houses that are full of life and with a taste for the past. Betancuria´s essence is its wild and virgin nature, its landscapes dotted with palm groves, badlands, valleys and ravines, volcanic cones and hidden caves. The interior surprises with its flora and fauna and unique, natural, beautiful and outstanding areas, with a high cultural and scientific interest.

Unsurprisingly, fish is predominant in most of the island’s restaurants, especially those on the coast with swordfish, sea bass, octopus and limpets as some of the more favoured delicacies. Inland, the ingredients favour more pastoral palettes with goat, rabbit, gofio (roasted corn meal) and the famous Maxorata cheese on the menu. Most main dishes are served with the ubiquitous accompaniments of fiery red mojo sauce and wrinkled potatoes (papas arrugadas).
