Getting to London Stansted Airport

If travelling from central London to catch your London to Naples flights, you’ll find the Stansted Express train operates one of the quickest and easiest services to Stansted airport. Trains run every 15 minutes and take just 47 minutes from London Liverpool Street. 

The bus is another convenient option. National Express provides a direct shuttle bus service from 38 points across the city centre.

  • The name Napoli comes from the Greek word Neapolis which means ‘new city’ or ‘new town’ and was chosen by early Greek inhabitants in the 8th century BC.
  • The Margherita pizza was named after Queen Margherita Teresa Giovanni after her visit to the city in 1889. The Italian flag is represented in its colours - basil for green, cheese for white and tomato sauce for red.
  • Castel dell’Ovo (Castle Egg) takes its name from a local legend about a magic egg that originated in medieval times. It is said that the egg was capable of protecting the city and its people from disaster or danger. According to the tale, the writer Virgil hid the egg in a secret location within the castle.
  • Naples' historic city centre is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
  • The meaning behind the phrase 'See Naples and die', or in Italian ‘Vedi Napoli e poi Muori’ is that the city is so beautiful there is nothing to top it and therefore no reason to go on living, as in 'You've seen it all’.
