London Stansted Airport Overview

Your London to Warsaw flights will be departing from London Stansted Airport. London Stansted is located approximately 68km outside of central London and has capacity to deal with over 28 million passengers annually. As it is such a large airport and is the fourth busiest airport in the UK, you’ll find it to be well connected to the public transport network.

When travelling from central London National Express coaches which have 15 pick-up points across central London. These coaches run 24 hours a day, but if you’d prefer a more direct route, you can also travel by train via the Stansted Express which runs every 15 minutes and takes only 47 minutes from London Liverpool Street. If you decide to drive to Stansted airport, you’ll find it located just off the M11 motorway. 

You’ll find a large duty-free and restaurant section after security for any last-minute shopping or snacking you might need to do before your London to Warsaw flights. 

 

Warsaw Modlin Airport Overview

When you arrive from your cheap flights to Warsaw from London you will be landing in Warsaw Modlin International Airport which is located 40 km (25 miles) North of Warsaw’s city centre. The airport has one terminal and one runway and is also considered to be the fifth busiest airport in all of Poland.

When travelling from Warsaw Modlin Airport to Warsaw city centre, there are a couple of transport options for you to consider. The airport itself does not have a railway station, but there are frequent shuttle bus services to the railway station in Modlin (distance of 4 km), where local or long-distance trains depart to Warsaw Central Station. There are also two coach operators ModlinBus and OKbus, providing services from the airport to Warsaw.

What to Expect on arrival at Warsaw?

When you land after your cheap flights to Warsaw from London, no doubt you’ll want to get out and see as many of the city’s sights as possible.  The Royal Castle is a great place to start. The castle served throughout the centuries as the official residence of the Polish monarchs. It is located in the Castle Square, at the entrance to Warsaw Old Town, a bustling tourism hub, with cobblestone alleys and medieval buildings reconstructed after WWII. At its heart is the Rynek Starego Miasta, a busy square lined with upmarket Polish restaurants. Nearby, St. John's Archcathedral dates back to the 14th century and hosts concerts throughout the summer. The area is also home to the restored apartments and manicured gardens of the Royal Castle. Another gem is the Palace of Culture and Science, which also happens to be the tallest building in Poland.

 

Five fun facts about Warsaw

  • Warsaw Old Town was rebuilt after World War II based on paintings from the 17th-18th centuries. It is protected by UNESCO and is a perfect example of restoration of cultural heritage. 
  • Warsaw earned the title ‘Phoenix City’ because of its extensive history and complete reconstruction after World War II, which had left over 85% of its buildings in ruins.
  • The Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw was a gift of the Soviet dictator Stalin to the Polish nation. At 237 metres tall, it’s the tallest building in Poland, and at 165 metres, the clock tower is considered to be the tallest in Europe.
  • The symbol for Warsaw is a mermaid, and mermaids are found on the city’s coat of arms and several statues around the capital. According to legend, a fisherman freed Warsaw’s mermaid from a rich merchant and she then declared her readiness to protect the city and its residents.
  • In the middle of the Old Town Square is a large bronze bell which is said to bring you good luck if you circle it three times.

However, Warsaw also experiences very cold winters, with temperatures dropping as low as -5°C in December and January.
