From ancient, superbly preserved sites like the Colosseum and Forum to the romantic beauty of its fountains and gardens, or the atmosphere in charming terracotta Trastevere, it’s difficult not to fall head over heels in love with the place.

Our advice is to make a list of your top ‘things to see’, and prioritise because it’s difficult to get to everything in one trip.
