Discover Krakow

If you’re here to book cheap flights to Krakow, you’re well on your way to having a truly unforgettable city break in one of Poland’s best-loved cities.  From the fairy tale castle (and the dragon that lives on its grounds) to its superb shopping and the buzzing bars and clubs that fill up with both locals and tourists every evening, Krakow is an all-rounder, with all you could ask for in a city break.

When to book cheap flights to Krakow

Krakow is a great city break destination all year round, though it’s worth remembering that it gets… well, a little chilly, once winter hits round these parts. Temperatures in December hover just below freezing during the day and drop further at night – it is cold. But if you’re the type that likes twinkling Christmas lights, magical markets and spicy mulled wine, then booking cheap Krakow flights in winter might be just up your street. Just be sure you pack all your warmest layers!

In spring and summer, temperatures are much more hospitable and you can fly to Krakow expecting temperatures from 20 degrees upwards if you travel from May to September. Krakow is busier at this time, but you’ll certainly be able to pack lighter!

What to see in Krakow

There’s an awful lot to see here. Fly to Krakow and get lost in its history, architecture, food, music, culture and, of course, its nightlife. The city has a beautiful historical Old Town that was, unusually for a Polish city , left almost totally untouched during and after World War II. It’s a beautiful place to wander to appreciate old architecture, quirky shops, galleries, and of course the city’s stunning and famous Rynek Glowny with its 40,000 square feet of shops, restaurants, cafés, sculpture, museums, buskers, and horse-drawn carriages. If you want to stay near the square, check out the rooms available on Ryanair Rooms, and earn credit back towards your next flight!

Wawel Castle is one of the city’s most visited attractions, and it’s well worth seeing, particularly the Crown Treasury, the Armory, the Royal Private Apartments and the beautiful Oriental Art. The buildings and gardens that surround the castle are worth your time as well, so give yourself a few hours to fully explore the entire site.

Kazimierz, Krakow’s old Jewish Quarter (and the birthplace of the bagel) is a wonderful little neighbourhood to discover. It has developed a sort of quirky, bohemian vibe and is jam-packed with lovely little cafés, unusual shops, art galleries, beer basements, and great restaurants. This is where you can find Zapiekanki, Poland’s answer to pizza – perfect if you want a cheap and cheerful, very Polish lunch!

There are many wonderful museums in the city, but one stand out is the Oskar Schindler museum just across the river from Kazimierz. This is situated in a part of the building where Schindler’s factory used to be, and it’s a big and very informative account of Nazi Occupation of Krakow during World War II. If you have booked flights to Krakow to learn more about the history of World War II and the holocaust, this is an unmissable museum. So too are the museums built on the sites of the Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps. These are outside the city and will require a day trip, but are an important part of the area’s  history.

Getting Around:

Much of central Krakow is very walkable, but there is a reliable and quick public transport in the city that can get you around for very little cost. Taxis here are relatively cheap too, and are an efficient way to get around Krakow.

If you want to hire a car in Krakow, you might not drive a lot within the city but it may be useful for exploration beyond Krakow. Book with Ryanair Car Hire for our low rates.

What to Eat in Krakow

Eating in Krakow is cheap. If you’re on a budget you can eat well for very little, particularly if you’re happy to stick to the aforementioned Zapiekanki and other Polish cheap eats. But it’s a good place to splash out too, and if you want fine dining you can indulge here without breaking the bank.

For traditional Polish fare, try somewhere like Kuchnia U Babci Maliny, just off the main square, where you can get all the dumplings your heart desires in very traditional surroundings. For a full taste of the city, book your Krakow flights today on Ryanair.com.
