Flying to Shannon must reads

Why Shannon?

Fly to Shannon and find yourself on the doorstep of Ireland’s wildest, most iconic beauty. Shannon airport is located close to the Shannon Estuary, the perfect location to start a road trip along Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. To the south lies the rugged and famously beautiful coastlines of Kerry and Cork, and to the north are the imposing Cliffs of Moher, the beautiful beaches of Donegal, the Aran Islands and much more. Book cheap Shannon flights with Ryanair and discover your perfect place on Ireland’s beautiful Atlantic coast.

When to book flights to Shannon

Ireland is a great place to visit all year round, but for the best chance of dry sunny days you should book flights to Shannon from May – September. June, July and August have the best chance of good weather and lovely long days, but these are very busy months to visit Ireland so if you prefer fewer crowds and less time queuing, try to fly to Shannon in the shoulder seasons (late April/May and September). At these times of year, the weather is still relatively mild and the days are long, but you’ll have a little more space to get that perfect selfie at the Cliffs of Moher.

Winter brings its own beauty to Ireland, and while you may want to spend a little less time on windswept cliffs and a little more time by roaring fires in village pubs, you’ll still have an enjoyable trip.  For an excellent choice of hotels, apartments and places to stay in Shannon, search Ryanair Rooms.

What to see in Shannon

This is a big question – Shannon flights will land you in the perfect location to explore the wild Atlantic way, but unless you want to spend your entire trip driving, you’ll need to choose one section to discover properly.

Since you’re landing right by it, the Shannon Estuary is a beautiful place to start your adventure – go see the 160-strong school of beautiful bottlenose dolphins who call the estuary home, or maybe pay a visit to the past with a trip to Bunratty Castle & Folk Park.

If you decide to venture south when you fly to Shannon, Cork and Kerry await. There’s still a lot to see here but some highlights include the stunning Ring of Kerry, the Blasket Islands, the Skellig Islands, Dursey Island, the vibrant little town of Dingle, the Beara peninsula, or Ireland’s southernmost point, Mizen Head. Go sea kayaking through caves in Kinsale and whale watching off the coast of Baltimore, browse the English Market in Cork city or take a stroll on Inch Beach.

If you head north when your Shannon cheap flights land, you’ll find the incredible Cliffs of Moher just an hour or so’s drive away. Enjoy the incredible food and fun that can be found in towns like Lahinch, Doolin, and Lisdoonvarna. Take a ferry out from the coast to the stunning Aran Islands, or go check out the Burren and its incredible limestone carpet, ancient tombs, and beautiful caves.

Getting Around

Whatever you decide to do after your Shannon flights land, the best way to do it is to hire a car from Shannon Airport. There is a lot of ground to cover between each of the amazing sights on the Wild Atlantic Way, and you’ll want the freedom and ease of your own transport.

Car hire can be booked with Ryanair Car Hire at the time you book your Shannon cheap flights, and your car will ready for you at the airport when you land in Ireland.

What to Eat in Shannon

Ireland is famous for its farming and agriculture, and the quality of ingredients on the west coast is second-to-none. Not just from the land either – you’re on Ireland’s Atlantic coast, and the seafood is superb. The little towns and villages along the coast harbour some seriously good culinary hidden gems, so do your research before you fly to Shannon, and if you find a restaurant that looks good, book in advance!
