During the summer months, temperatures in Tangier can be oppressively hot, so it may not be the best time to see the city if you’re not a fan of hot and humid weather.

What to see in Tangier?

Tangier is known as the gateway to Africa so when you fly to Tangier, you’ll find plenty to see and do. Take a stroll through the Kasbah with its whitewashed and yellow painted houses. Visit the Dar el Makhzen Palace at the top of the Kasbah and take in the breath-taking views over the city and across the Strait of Gibraltar.

Tangier's medina tumbles down the cliff towards the ocean in a labyrinth of narrow alleyways leading to the main square. The heart of this is the Grand Socco where the old and new meet with market stalls, cinemas and antique mosques. Instagram at the ready.

 

Getting around

When your Tangier flights land, and you arrive at your accommodation, the safest and most convenient way of getting around the city is by foot, as many of the best sights are located on top of steep stairways. Tangier also has many wide streets and long boulevards which are ideal for a pleasant evening strolls. If you’re looking to avoid the midday heat and get to other parts of town or to the beach, buses are cheap and efficient. What to eat in Tangier?

Foodie? When you fly to Tangier, you can look forward to indulging in a mix of Arabic and European flavours. Couscous-based dishes are popular, so too are tajines, rich, chunky  stews, normally cooked in a large earthenware pot. The most famous street foods you’ll see people eating in Tangiers is Brochettes, a type of kebab consisting of either steak of swordfish. Bon appétit!
