Zaragoza’s only Michelin starred restaurant, this place doesn’t do things by halves. A family affair, La Prensa has been passed from generation to generation since its doors opened in 1970. Previously a wine shop, the dining room was added as a way to serve homemade food to complement the region’s best vino. Drawing inspiration from the flavours of Aragonese and Spanish cuisine, the chef churns out spellbinding dishes that mingle creative flare with traditional cooking. A local favourite, Gorolai is a sensory overload with its eclectic menu and bright orange and green interiors. Well renowned within the community as being one of the best restaurants around, this place is a fan of overdressing and the proof is in the presentation. Watch as works of art leave the kitchen and indulge in fresh seasonal products prepared with a whole lot of TLC. The small space inside emulates cosy, relaxed vibes with modern decoration in the form of paintings by Jorge Grey and Villarrocha. 

4. El Chalet – 25 Calle Sta. Teresa de Jesus

Set across two floors, El Chalet is one of the most charming spots in the city. Located in a former townhouse, the restaurant emulates much of the building’s old character with sophisticated, elegant interiors and large rooms. Be adventurous and try out the tasting menu prepared with seasonal ingredients and a bucket load of creativity. Specialising in steak tartare that is prepared in front of the customer, this place isn’t afraid to break boundaries with its dishes. 5. Casa Lac – 12 Calle de los Martires

Feeding the locals since 1825, Casa Lac is part of Zaragoza’s furniture and is Spain’s oldest licensed restaurant. Choose from gastro-tapas, a set menu or a la carte and tuck into some contemporary cooking. Split into a downstairs bar and upstairs elegant dining room, the restaurant takes its name from the founding family and has become a reference point for innovative gastronomy across the country. The interior is decked out in the style of Navarre architecture and features wrought iron staircases and tiles, while the upper dining room is heavily inspired by the Elizabethan era with its vintage lamps and Canadian wood floors. A must-see when visiting the city, this is without doubt one of the best places to eat in Zaragoza. 

6. Meli Melo – 45 Calle Mayor

Tapas connoisseurs rejoice, this is the ultimate bar to indulge in all your favourite small bites synonymous with Spanish culture. Making the traditional fun and innovative, Meli Melo plays with flavours and textures to curate modern takes on age old favourites. Take your pick from the display along the bar and try mini shrimp and fish burgers, patatas a la gresca or escalibada con bacalao. Opened in 2005, this place in the historic city centre has quickly become a local hotspot and has won many awards in tapas competitions all over the world.
