Ryanair Stories: Postcards from France

As usual, we’ve been collecting your trip reviews and holiday snaps, because we love hearing how you all get on once you step off the aircraft at your destination. And as usual, you all know how to really enjoy a holiday! Here are just some of your #ryanairstories from France…

We flew to Beauvais, hired a car from the airport to get us to our accommodation, and stayed in between there and Paris. It was actually a really good position out in the country so we could give the kids a taste of the real France. We visited Disneyland Paris for 2 days though, and Paris for a day also. Disneyland Paris was brill for the 2 days, the kids absolutely loved it, and of course Paris itself was fabulous also.

The people, the glorious food and the stunning countryside are all just beyond praise as far as I’m concerned. Gorgeous weather when we were there certainly helped too!

I would strongly recommend that you rent a car at the airport if you want to do some sightseeing and spend some time on the “Ile de Re” (the island right across the bridge). The whole region is really beautiful so it’s really handy to have a car to explore it at your leisure. And don’t forget your swim suit!

Arles is small enough to be manageable, big enough to be interesting and perfect for getting everywhere else – Montpelier, Aix, Marseille and Avignon, the Camargue… all an easy drive or train journey away. We ate at Le Galoubet – it’s the kind of French restaurant that thousands emulate and never get right. It’s great; effortlessly delicious food served in a beautiful room, with a fire lit for winter and a terrace for outdoor dining in summer.

Keep searching and exploring in Arles, a lot of its most interesting features are where you least expect to find them. It’s less ‘pretty pretty’ than other places like St Remy de Provence (also beautiful) – but infinitely more rewarding if you just go with it. Enjoy!

We travelled to Perpignan in late September and it was glorious. The food was amazing and the people were friendly, no two days were the same. Over the 5 days we saw and did more than we could imagine. We went on a romantic trip to the Pyrenees and saw some breath-taking views, really amazing. We also rented a car and travelled to Collieure. Honestly I can’t decide which was better!

In the city, we enjoyed feasting on tapas (you’re very close to Spain here) and good quality wine for a bargain. It was splendid – we’re already planning our next trip back. I’d advise brushing up on the language though. Most people there don’t speak English at all, so learning even basic French is definitely going to help a lot. Also, I’d recommend renting a car. The public transport isn’t great and having a car gives you freedom to explore the surrounding area.

Start your days early – the sun in the morning is amazing but the afternoons can get very hot there. Nice has some beautiful food markets, so pack a flat pack picnic basket so you can take full advantage. A lovely fresh picnic with a bottle of wine up in the mountains is hard to beat. The public transport is very cheap and the surrounding villages are stunning, so make good use of the buses.

We like to visit the port area for a typical local dinner in some of the nice restaurants there. A trip with the Little Trains of Marseille is also a really good solution to discover the city. There are a lot of interesting shops there too, but for us, Marseille gives us the possibility to hire a boat and visit the Calanques.

The best way to reach Marseille is to rent a car at the airport. There is parking at the surrounding of the city, and you can then take a bus to reach the centre – just check the map before you set off. If you’re driving, then on the way – between Marseille and the airport – you can visit lovely coastal villages like Carry-le-Rouet, it’s really nice.

We’re two young adults, we flew to Tours on a college break. We weren’t sure what to expect, but we found the nightlife really fantastic in Tours. It was a short weekend break and we went out on the Saturday night. All the cocktail bars, pubs and nightclubs we went to were great – not expensive, nice people, and the staff were very friendly.

We had very little French but the locals were very nice and spoke as much English as they could to help us with anything – I would definitely learn a little French for the next time! A good map would be useful too because, for us at least, our hotel was pretty hidden in the town and not so easy to find. It’s always a good thing to have!
