It’s your anniversary, your husband’s birthday, the celebration of her new job, or just any other reason to say I love you.
What do you do? Sure, you can book the standard night out but what if you could step it up a notch… tell him how much he means to you or tell her that she really is that special!
My husband and I have set out to explore Europe’s most exciting cities and hidden treasures to give you a tried and tested Date Night itinerary.
With its colourful fishing harbour and local French charm, stunning Sainte Maxime offers a less glitzy, more accessible alternative to its French Rivera neighbours.
Located in the heart of the Côte d’Azur, just north of Saint Tropez, this small coastal town boasts 11 km of gorgeous Mediterranean shoreline, a bustling marina, and a cobblestoned old town worthy of getting lost in.
The setting alone is enough to spark love but if you are more of an active couple (like us), and like to bond over experiences, there are literally hundreds of activities around or in the city to take part in.
Sip and savour the delicious wines of Domaine de Tropez.
Founded in 1996, the wines at Domaine de Tropez are a blend of different parcels of AOC Côtes de Provence.
Take a tour of the winery’s ultra modern cellar and then sit back and relax. The winery’s terrace overlooks the vineyards and is an ideal setting for you to try the different varieties of reds, roses and whites, all which benefit from the Mediterranean climate and strong maritime influence.
Whether you want to explore the region on two wheels or four, La Guêpe Mobile Electric car and scooters has got you covered. Zip around Sainte Maxime without leaving a carbon footprint and have a blast while doing it.
Directly across Saint Maxime is flashy sister San Tropez with its flesh coloured buildings and jaw dropping superyachts drifting in and out of the marina.
Rub shoulders with celebrities by taking an excursion operated by the famous green-hulled ships of Les Bateaux Verts, who began their passage between the two cities in 1961.
Enjoy the traditional daily menu at local favourite Café de Lices, visit the Annonciade art museum or wander the narrow, shop-filled streets with the world’s most exclusive brands.
There are a number of ways to enjoy the many beaches of Saint Maxime but one of the most adventurous options is to go parasailing. Fly high to new heights (let me warn you- they get you up there) and get a bird’s eye view of the spectacular surroundings.
Saint Maxime also offers an endless choice of water sports and recreation activities including stand-up paddle-boarding, sea-karting, fly-boarding, scuba diving, and sailing.
If staying on dry land is more your thing, then take advantage of Saint Maxime’s premier golf course, Golf Bluegreen, offering one of the best views of the bay of Saint Tropez.
Get all the glamour of your own private villa without the hefty price tag.
Only 2 km from the centre of Sainte Maxime and 1 km from the nearby sandy beach, the villas at Restanques du Carré Beauchene offer the perfect romantic getaway. Stay in a 3-bedroom villa, which sleeps up to eight people, for as little as £214 per person per week.
Private gardens and swimming pools, together with stunning views over the Golf Sainte Maxime make this accommodation picture-perfect.
The villas are run and operated by Summer France, which offer flexible arrivals and stay requirements.
French cuisine is renowned throughout the world. Not surprisingly, Saint Maxime offers many fine-dining experiences.
The catch of the day is always fresh at this beach-side eatery. Dial up the romance and indulge in its menu, which focuses on fish and seafood.
If you’re looking for a more intimate dining experience, then look no further than your private garden. Restaurant La Badiane, owned and run by chef Geoffrey Poësson offers a ‘chef à domicile’ service for clients, offering the same style of cuisine as is served in his restaurant.
