Located in the province of Zeeland, Brouwersdam is one of Southern Holland’s best-kept secrets. Only a short drive from Amsterdam Schiphol airport, watersports enthusiasts that are in-the-know flock here for safe, uncrowded beaches and a steady, near constant wind.
Although last minute family trips aren’t the easiest to plan, Brouwersdam offers all the comforts that a family with active kids require. So, pack your swimsuit and get ready for some adventure, sports, and a lot of fun.
The centre of BrouwersDAM (Stay, Eat and See) is a combination of hotel, restaurant, shop and water sports instruction centre. Catering to families and sports junkies alike, these facilities are literally a one-stop shop for your next family mini-break.
Open since 1993, this modern and stylish building offers an option of basic rooms or lake rooms. Private family bungalows are also dotted along the shore next to the main facilities.
Our family of five enjoyed an adorable duplex loft with private deck overlooking the bay. As the sun set, it was pure peace, that is until one of our boys decided to do a cannon ball into the water.
One of the major attractions offered by BrouwersDAM sports centre is the kid’s sailing party (normally 4 days). Sailing on the Grevelingen (or closed off part of the Rhine-Meuse) was an adventure of endless blue for our kids.
Instructors divide the children by age and experience and combine the learning with giggle-worthy activities. Our children were lucky to experience an introductory course.
It was all grins as everyone from our group, zoomed down the 8-metre high, 25-metre long slide at the BrouwersDAM Waterslide.
Some of us were a bit more cautious (me) and others took a more daredevil approach, heading down four at a time.
Don’t worry! Wetsuits and impact life jackets ensure that you only feel the laughter coming up as you break the water’s surface.
I must admit, windsurfing has never looked easy to me.
But even my six-year-old surfed like a pro after only one lesson thanks to the patient and professional staff.
With the VDWS-accredited centre, you can improve your technique or practice new moves in classes or with individual instruction.
A few years ago, we tried SUPing (Stand Up Paddling) for the first time. Since then, we’ve been hooked and try it out every time we can find a board and a stretch of water.
To our delight, SUPing is a popular activity at Brouwersdam. Beginners can learn the ropes in the calm bay surrounding the facilities and those up for a challenge can navigate the open waters. It was definitely a work out.
There’s nothing better after a long day of sporting activities then a cool drink and a stunning view. Luckily for us, BrouwersDAM’s restaurant offers both. Chill in the stylish decorated indoor and outside space while the kids run around by the shore and adjoining playground. Seriously, where do they find all this energy?
With a fantastic menu offering breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, you won’t go hungry no matter how many calories you’ve burned.
Thanks, BrouwersDAM, we had great fun and are definitely geared up for more!
