Head to Ellis or Kallithea beach on the north shore for developed facilities and good bus services. If secluded spots are your thing then Kiotari and Glystra beach on the south shore is the perfect place to get your dose of vitamin sea! Rhodes is also incredibly family friendly on its east shore where beaches such as Kolymbia and Lindos boast calmer waters and incredible views of the Lindos Acropolis. Looking to catch a wave? Find surfers’ paradise at the west shore with its over exposed, windy Ixia and Prasonisi beaches. With all this choice, you’ll never be lost for what to do in Rhodes, Greece! 

2. Take a stroll through time

As the fourth largest Greek island, Rhodes is rich with culture - what better way to spend an afternoon than strolling through the narrow cobbled streets of the largest medieval city in Europe? Admire the Acropolis at Lindos 50km southeast of the island’s centre and stop for a drink in the picturesque ancient city. Wondering what to do in Rhodes, if you just can’t get enough history? Head to the archaeological museum in the city of Rhodes where you can get acquainted with the local cultural production throughout the ages. The Modern Greek Art museum showcasing Greece’s great 20th century artists is a must for avid art enthusiast and is situated at the New Town’s northern tip. 

3. Explore the natural surroundings

Beaches and architecture aren’t the only thing guaranteed to take your breath away on this island. Never be stuck for what to do in Rhodes, Greece by exploring all its natural beauties which provide a welcome escape from the heat. Chase serenity at Butterfly Valley 15 km southwest of the city. True to its name, the valley is teeming with colourful butterflies, and perfect for a spot of rest and relaxation. Seven Springs, 30 km southeast of Rhodes city is an oasis of pine and palm trees creating a cool atmosphere. The lake comprising of seven springs also features a restaurant with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Next, wander along to Rodini Park, the most ancient park in the world. Only three kilometres away from the centre along the Rhodes – Lindos highway, the idyllic landscape is famous for its dense vegetation, small bridges and water lilies. 

4. Set sail

Take advantage of the glistening emerald Mediterranean surrounding you on all sides and spend the day touring the coastline on the water. With the numerous aqua activities that are on offer, you are bound to find something that floats your boat. Snorkel along the bottom of the ocean or kayak above it. Book a paddle board tour of the east coast and see the sun setting on a dinner cruise. A day excursion to Symi island is a must do. Just a short boat ride from Rhodes, the small island is most known for its harbour which is surrounded by colourful neoclassical houses. Make sure to stop off at St. George’s Bay as well as the island’s many beaches; Chora, Pedi and Marathounda. The old town of Symi itself and Panotmitis Monastery are worthwhile visits too!  

5. Let your hair down

A jack of all trades, Rhodes is not just a relaxing retreat. For those travellers that want the chance to let loose at a more upbeat tempo, there’s plenty of nightlife to be found. Head to Platia Anonos in the old quarter for a drink at traditional bars favoured by the locals. The Acropolis town, Lindos, is no sleeping giant either.
