Novalja is a town on the Croatian island of Pag and its idyllic setting will play host to this year’s Sonus festival. We caught up with Lana Borić to get the scoop on everything to do in Novalja.
Boasting its most incredible line up yet, Sonus returns to hedonist's paradise, Zrce Beach for its sixth outing this August. From 19th - 23rd August, head to the Croatian coast for 4 days unrivalled partying and stunning weather.
Lana is the Head of Communication and Marketing for Sonus Festival and has some top tips about the town that usually only locals get to know about. Check them out below…
"The island of Pag is an extraordinary place, not like any other island on Croatian coast, people call it The Moon Surface Island where the rocky landscape intertwines with aromatic herbs and few hundred years old olive trees facing the crystal-clear Adriatic Sea.
When a friend visits me here I would choose some of the hidden bays of the island to bring them to first, like the ones near the town Lun, to dive into deep blue Adriatic Sea. I think that’s the proper way to start the vacation.
Novalja city centre is full of bars. You can grab a cup of coffee on the beach by the water or in the old town.
You’ve probably been partying all night, so my recommendation is to visit local markets in the Novalja city centre and buy locally grown fruits. Perfect energy boost for the next round.
I can’t choose a favourite restaurant, but in the old town of Pag – not so close to Novalja – I tasted some of the best fish dishes and sweet deserts there.
I would recommend renting a scooter or quad and exploring the island’s hidden treasures – it's a fun way to see the island.
From August 19th, during Sonus Festival to dance under the sky full of stars for 5 days and 5 nights and listen to some of the world’s famous DJs.
Everyone should experience that atmosphere at least once. And then, stay ‘till September when the island becomes calm and you can take a swim in the sea that is still warm.
I strongly recommend local specialties like the famous Croatian cheese, Pag cheese, made from sheep milk, delicious local olive oil, home grown olives, fish and clams from the Adriatic Sea or the island’s specialty, lamb roast, if you’re into meat.
Get ready to meet young people from all around the world. During the summer, the city of Novalja lives 24-7 and music played in the clubs on Zrće beach meets everyone’s taste. You will party, swim, eat and then do it all over again!
If you don’t want to stay at the hotel or swim in your unicorn floater in the pool by your villa, you can enjoy a more natural environment and sleep in a tent in some of the island’s camps.
There are also cool hostels in the city where you can meet people from all around the globe, coming to party and explore the island.
I think that only shopping you should do is the local food specialties or traditional Pag lace products. You won’t be able to find that anywhere else."
A huge thanks to Lana for sending us these indsider tips on the beautiful Pag island. If you want any more information on Sonus Festival check out their website here.
