You might call it the ultimate opening act. Before the clubs get going and the parties kick off, the skies over Ibiza put on their own nightly show, treating everyone on the White Isle to one final glorious, display of colour.
From fiery reds to glistening golds, Ibiza’s sunsets are legendary – the following are seven of the best spots on the island to chill and watch the drama unfold…
In a ritual that’s unique to the north coast, local hippies have been gathering on Benirrás Beach each Sunday since the early nineties to ‘drum down’ the sunset. Both hypnotic and mesmerising, this is definitely one for those looking to experience the real Ibiza.
Not only is Cala Conta the beach that brought the fun and sunshine to Wham’s Club Tropicana video, it’s also one of the best spots on the island to watch the day dissolve.
Whether you sit on the sand or look out from the Sunset Ashram beach bar, you’re guaranteed to be blown away by the amber and scarlet-tinged skies.
If ever there was a sight worthy of that hearts-for-eyes emoji, it’s the breathtaking view of the sun setting over the islets of Es Vedra and Es Vedranell. Head to either Cala D’Hort or the famous Torre del Pirata for the best Instagram pics.
For a bit of added drama, try chasing the sun across the sea as it sets. Hop on an evening boat trip from Ibiza Town to Formentera and you’ll see the sky glow then fade from baby blues to dusky pinks all within the 30-minute ferry crossing.
Don’t be fooled by the ramshackle appearance of this beach hut bar. Formentera’s Pirata Bus has been the go-to spot for those looking to sink a sundowner with a view for over 40 years.
You won’t hear house or electronica here, the DJ stays faithful to the bar’s original roots, spinning hits from the 1960s and 1970s. Expect a chilled-out soundtrack of Fleetwood Mac and Eagles while you wait for the sea to swallow the sun.
If you’re fond of sand dunes and salty air….head to Las Salinas, the beach within a nature reserve. Surrounded by pine forests and spectacular salt flats, sunsets are extra special here with the glass-like water reflecting the sun’s rays perfectly.
