1. Zoi – Obala Hrvatskog Narodnog Preporoda 23

Set in a prime location overlooking the harbour, Zoi takes fine dining to new heights with an eclectic menu and atmosphere to match. Boasting beautifully presented fusion foods which combine a mixture of rich Mediterranean cuisine, the restaurant is one of the best in the city. Settle into the unique 1700 year old surroundings and dine like royalty against the backdrop of the palace walls. On a summer’s evening opt to sit on the open air terrace and watch the Riva come to life below you. 

2. Odmah Iza – Poljana Tina Ujevica 7

Buried in the heart of the old town, this cute little spot is what Instagram dreams are made of. Decorated like a living room, the interior of the café is cosy, warm and covered in motivational quotes. Featuring a menu of quirky, colourful drinks and snacks, indulge your sweet tooth and stop by Odmah Iza for a well-deserved sight-seeing break. Order a hot chocolate and watch in awe as a mug lands on the table piled high with whipped cream, Oreos, Kinder, Ferrero Rochers and wafers. Whether it’s a rainbow latte or rose petal lemonade that takes your fancy, a drink at this picture-perfect location is a must when visiting Split. 

3. Brasserie no. 7 – Obala Hvratskog narodnog preporoda 7

Inspired by the era of French rule over Split, Brasserie no. 7 sits right in the centre of the Riva and is one of the best restaurants in the city. Start your day with a croissant and coffee to the view of yachts sailing into the harbour or spend the evening sipping fine wines while you tuck into contemporary Croatian cuisine seamlessly infused with French accents. Nicknamed B7 by locals, the menu aims to highlight the local cuisine by adding a modern twist to traditional dishes. Potentially one of the most beautifully located restaurants on the Dalmatian coast, Brasserie no. 7 will leave you feeling full up whilst simultaneously wanting more. 

4. Bokeria Kitchen & Wine Bar – Domaldova 8

Taking notes from the La Boqueira market in Barcelona, the Mediterranean restaurant, Bokeria, is located amongst the walls of Diocletian’s palace. Using only the freshest ingredients from the local area, you can expect exceptional dishes that change according to the seasons. Decked out in classy, rustic interiors, the inside is lined with shelved walls home to rows of Aperol and wine. Topped off with a massive chandelier swinging from the ceiling, the space extends over two floors and fills up quickly. With a relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and plenty of options, you’ll be spoilt for choice. 

5. Kat’s Kitchen – Antuna Mihanovica 33 and Morpurgova poljana 1

Venture a few minutes out of town to Marjan and feast on wholesome, organic food at Kat’s Kitchen. Offering an almost completely plant-based seasonal menu, the deli is potentially the healthiest place in the city. Serving dishes including spelt pancakes that look almost too good to eat, homemade granola and cold pressed juices, this is the ideal spot to grab some breakfast and explore the picturesque neighbourhood. The first of its kind in Split, Kat’s Kitchen has a second grab and go location just off the Riva at Morpurgova poljana 1, for those looking to eat on the move. 

6. Os kolac – Ciril-Metodova 4

Open Monday to Saturday until 10pm, Os kolac is the ultimate sweet escape from the bustling streets of the old town.  Owned by Tea Mamut, pastry chef to the stars, Os kolac looks as good as its cakes taste. Covered in pink and white striped wallpaper, this is another great place to rest your feet for a while after a long day of wandering. Using fresh ingredients to combine Dalmatian recipes with a modern outlook, the patisserie specialises in fine pastries, cakes, pancakes biscuits and handmade creams. Treat yourself and indulge in some world class desserts that’ll be hard to beat anywhere else.
